In The Realm: Major Inhabitants!

Art by Collin Mcdonald
Welcome back!
The Second development post for In The Realm
Enjoy

First order of business is recognizing the links from Tumblr and Reddit, which can be found here and here. Why? I don't know, I just thought I should.

Secondly, I want to clarify that as the game is still in development. Anything is up for complete redesign later. This game is a work in progress.

Onward!

As of right now, there are 8 Major Inhabitants to play as. Humans, Ta' Sin, Vixxen, Minks, AITHTIABs, Mystens, Yz, and Scraps!

Each inhabitant is interesting in their own way and has special abilities. Here are some general summaries:

Humans - Duh Herf, they are Humans.

Ta' Sin - Large goat-esque creatures that live on a damningly hot planet and are master forgers. They craft the most awe-inspiring equipment out of the finest materials, and aren't ones to be crossed for their hot tempers.

Vixxen - Creatures that look similar to that of a rat and a wolf, the Vixxen are mass brawlers. Their primitive ideals lead them to be excellent, dim witted fighters. Though they don't conventionally use weapons, Vixxen find the occasional stick or club very good for their blood lust.

Minks - Lanky, pale alien looking creatures that climb and sneak around large urban cities, Minks are considered the vermin of their planet, giving them exceptional abilities for sneaking and hiding. The realm has given them new meaning for their murderous and stealing skills!

Artificial Intelligence That Happens to Inhabit a Humanoid Being (AITHTIAB) - Small, parasitic microchips that live in a robot chassis or a living being. AITHTIABs exist to further their technological genius and advance their AI. Damn good with a firearm and smart enough to win 'Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader', they know their way around.

Mystens - Beings with heads of bronze and fragile cloaks, the Mysten is a mysterious creature. Their faces represent locks, sometimes with horns or other protrusions to compliment them. They harness a powerful sorcery that most call Bullshit, due to it's unfair advantage.s

Yz - A faceless humanoid that wanders the land and screws you out of your house and money. They are pacifists and master story-tellers, capable of swindling you out of your clothes. Their faces look blurred if not looked at directly, eye contact showing a face of trust, humbleness, and care.

Scraps - Literally universal garbage that has materialized over time, the Scraps are unwanted and rare. Due to looks and smell, Scraps are not very sociable, but they wield tremendous telekinetic power.

Each Major Inhabitant has several classifications that offer different abilities and help differentiate players when they pick the same Major Inhabitants.

And that's all for this post! If you have any questions, please ask below or email me at JernahnNerson@gmail.com. Next week we'll be talking about Powerin' Up! So, y'know, get ready for that ride.

Stay safe and pickle your cucumbers,

In The Realm: Introduction!

Art by Collin Mcdonald

Hello All!
This post is the first of many for a table-top RPG made by some kids.
Enjoy

In The Realm is a game created by Jonah Nelson and Collin Mcdonald. It has been in development since early 2014, though there have been prototypes since 2011 and 2012. These early versions were all hand written, and when the pencil marks started fading we decided to bring it into the digital age!

The game we made all those years ago wasn't as good as we originally wanted it to be. We were young, lazy, and thought we'd just improv the parts we hadn't written yet. But as time passed, the idea to complete it seemed more proper. With similar ideas and themes still intact, we have reworked the whole game, and can proudly say that we are roughly 70% done as of January of 2016!

It's a comedic table-top RPG inspired by games like Dungeons and Dragons and the cult classic Paranoia. We've created original rules and ideas to keep the game interesting and fresh, whilst stuffing it full of shit that I may or may not think is funny.

So why am I reading this?

I want to track the progress of the game and explain things. Every so often I'll release an update on this blog describing a chapter of the game and the major ideas in it.

So, how about this first post!

Introduction! (Features and Setting)

Features:
1. Variations of everything! Random titles for enemies, random effects on weapons and armor, and a     million different spell combinations!
2. Lighthearted, silly gameplay! We're trying our best to keep the game easy to understand and fun to     play. I wholeheartedly believe that fun comes before rules!
3. Community driven! Races, Deities, Weapons, Armor, Monsters! All the tools you need to make         your own and add them to the game, then share for all to enjoy!

And rolling into the Community Driven part, I'll explain the setting.

There is a cataclysmic event that rips a wormhole into every dimension. All of the separate places pour into one dimension, easily referred to as The Realm! From Human society, to the brawling clans of the Vixxen, to the parasitic microchips AITHTIAHBs, The Realm is full of sword and sorcery, bullets, and computers! We're excited about the flexibility of the setting, not only for the role-playing aspect, but also for the Community Content! Stones to fusion cannons, swords against alien metals, literally anything is possible In The Realm!

And we cannot wait to share the rest of it's development cycle with the community! Expect the next post next week, on the topic of Major Inhabitants!

Have a great day and watch your toes,

Jonah Nelson
